The Argento Chase (Registered as the Cotswold Chase) comes from Cheltenham on Saturday and this Grade Two race is set to be a thriller, as long as the course isn’t too damaged by the weather. Officials do seem to be confident that the meeting will go ahead though, which is great news given the amount of abandoned races we have had over the last week or so.
The race is run around three miles and one-and-a-half furlongs, with 19 fences ready to be jumped.
Grands Crus is the horse that is currently leading the way with the bookmakers as the David Pipe-trained Gelding is at 39/25 with Betfair.
There is no doubt that Grands Crus is a horse with a lot of quality, but this hasn’t been the best season for him so far. Pipe has to get his preparation spot-on and hope this is the race where his favourite kick-starts his campaign.
If at his best, then it will be tough to stop Grands Crus winning here.
There will be some tough competition for Pipe though, especially from Imperial Commander, who is expected to make his long awaited return from injury this weekend.
At the moment, Imperial Commander can be backed at 5/1 with Bet365 to come out on top here, so this could prove to be a popular bet. It is tough to know just what to expect though given the amount of time he has been on the sidelines.
Midnight Chase is then available at 6/1 and it is going to take the best performance of his season to come out on top.
Paul Nicholls has entered Tidal Bay for this encounter and he is an 8/1 shot with Paddy Power. The champion trainer has given him an entry in the Cleeve Hurdle as well though, so he has a decision to make and it might be worth waiting until that call is made before betting on Tidal Bay.
Hunt Ball then makes up the list of contenders at 12/1 with Boylesports, with Wayward Prince and Weird Al looking like the best outside bets at 14/1 and 15/1 respectively.
It is all set to be a cracking encounter and is an extremely tough one to call. The bookies are also finding it difficult to predate as a number of horses are in contention and all have the quality to cause some real problems here.
When it comes to picking a winner though, we think that Grands Crus is the one to go for and offers good odds for a favourite.
