Arsenal v Chelsea Betting Tips – 24th January 2018
Arsenal and Chelsea meet for the fourth and final time in just 129 days on Wednesday night. There is so far nothing to separate the two London rivals this season with three draws but something has to give at the Emirates.
There’s a place in the Carabao Cup final on the line so one team will emerge victorious, even if it takes extra time and penalties.
After a 0-0 draw in the first leg of the semi-final, this match could hardly be set up any better so we should be in line for an evening full of drama, tension and top quality football.
Chelsea the Favourites to Squeeze Through
Even though Chelsea are winless in their last five games against Arsenal, Antonio Conte’s team have been installed as the narrow favourites with the bookmakers.
The Blues are available at a best price of 29/20 with Marathonbet. That will tempt more than a few people to part with their cash to support Chelsea but we’re not sure that’s a value bet.
For whatever reason, Arsenal have been able to raise their game for matches against Chelsea lately. Whether it’s last season’s FA Cup final, the Community Shield in August or any of their three most recent meetings, Arsenal have been either resolute in defence or frightening going forwards against the Blues.
Let’s be clear here. We’re not saying that Arsenal will win, simply that it’s going to be very tough for Chelsea.
So, rather than backing Antonio Conte’s men in the Match Odds market, back the draw at 131/50 with Marathonbet.
If you think Chelsea will make it to Wembley, you can take the safer option of backing them to qualify for the final at 8/11 with Paddy Power.
Another Thriller at the Emirates?
Arsenal have long had a problem playing at Stamford Bridge. Gunners fans were, therefore, delighted to see the way that their team went about their business in their trips there this season.
Those 0-0 draws were good for Arsenal but they weren’t exactly pleasing on the eye for the neutrals. Thankfully, the match at the Emirates was much more entertaining.
Both Chelsea and Arsenal held the lead during a thrilling second half that included two goals for each side. A draw was a fair result given the attacking play of both teams and it will hopefully be more of the same on Wednesday.
Nerves will clearly play a part with such a cup final up for grabs but even still, we’re expecting to see over 2.5 goals come in at 4/5 with Ladbrokes.
There’s every chance that the semi-final second leg will end in the same score line as Chelsea’s most recent trip to the Emirates so chance a bet on the 2-2 correct score at 14/1 with William Hill.
Hazard’s Hot Streak to Continue
Arsenal fans have been up in arms recently. Having been told by Wenger that the club would never again sell to Man Utd, they’ve seen Alexis Sanchez swap the Emirates for Old Trafford and are not happy about it.
While Arsenal now have to replace one of Europe’s best attacking players, Chelsea can still rely on Eden Hazard. The diminutive Belgian was at his very best when scoring a brace against Brighton on the weekend and he’s the Chelsea player most likely to do the damage at the Emirates.
At 3/1 with Betfair, Hazard looks a good bet to score Chelsea’s first goal.
Arsenal fans have at least been buoyed by suggestions that Mesut Özil may sign a new contract with the club after all. The German’s return from injury was a boost against Crystal Palace on the weekend and he looks a good bet to score anytime at 51/10 with Unibet.
