Chelsea v Crystal Palace Betting Tips – 10th March 2018
Relegation from the Premier League is rarely straightforward. Every couple of years a team will drop out of the top flight without putting up much of a fight but more often than not there are a series of ups and downs along the way.
Crystal Palace was certainly attest to that if they end up being relegated come May.
The Eagles’ campaign started horribly under the stewardship of Frank de Boer but picked up considerably after Roy Hodgson took over at the club he supported as a boy. They managed to put together a run of eight games unbeaten and beat Chelsea at Selhurst Park but morale at the club took a major blow on Monday night.
Crystal Palace threw away a two goal lead to lose to Manchester United and just a few days later must raise themselves for a trip to Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.
Chelsea to Inflict Another Blow to the Eagles
Crystal Palace are not the only team to suffer a damaging defeat last time out. Chelsea’s performance against Manchester City was labelled embarrassing and unacceptable and it’s looking increasingly likely that Antonio Conte won’t be at the club next season.
Some have gone as far as to claim that the members of the Chelsea squad are not playing for their manager.
That’s not an accusation that can be levelled at the Crystal Palace squad. They were obviously devastated when Nemanja Matic scored in the 90th minute. It’s not their stomach for the fight that’s in question, it’s simply whether or not they’re good enough to stay up.
Optimistic Palace fans will believe they have the players to get out of trouble but the number of injuries they’ve suffered lately has badly weakened the team.
Wilfried Zaha is the big loss but the other absent players will hurt Crystal Palace once again against Chelsea.
Conte may choose to rest players ahead of Chelsea’s Champions League match with Barcelona which could give Palace a chance to score but the best bet looks to be the home side to win and over 2.5 goals at 19/20 with Ladbrokes.
Can Palace Make the Game Interesting?
Roy Hodgson has long had a reputation for building teams from the back. He famously coached his Fulham defence by tying ropes around them to teach them to keep their shape but it’s been his attacking intent that’s caught the eye recently.
Crystal Palace started with both Christian Benteke and Alexander Sørloth up front against Man Utd and was nearly rewarded for it.
Given the problems that Chelsea have had in defence lately, Hodgson may decide to go for it again at Stamford Bridge. Palace will have chance so have a bet on both teams to score at 13/10 with Betfair.
The problems in the Eagles’ defence should also ensure Chelsea have joy in front of goal so back them to score in both halves at evens with Betway.
Giroud to Grab Chelsea Goal Number Two
The manner of Chelsea’s performance against Barcelona was clearly the basis for their performance at the Etihad. Given how poorly the Blues played against Man City and the fact that they must score in the Bernabeu, Conte may well decide to switch things up and start with a striker.
Olivier Giroud will hope that he gets a chance to prove himself worthy of filling that role by starting against Crystal Palace.
The Frenchman scored his wonderful scorpion kick goal against Palace but he’ll settle for any goal at Stamford Bridge where he is 10/11 to score anytime with Betfred.
