Chelsea v Man City Betting Tips
Chelsea fans have not been particularly happy with the amount of people claiming that the Premier League title is heading to Manchester this season.
Both Man City and Man Utd have had very strong starts to the season but Chelsea are just three points shy of the early pacesetters after their own solid start.
As the defending champions, Chelsea may not feel as though they have to prove themselves as title contenders but they’ve got a great chance to prove that the critics are wrong to write them off when they take on Man City early on Saturday evening.
Can City Pass Their Biggest Test of the Season So Far?
Pep Guardiola has been doing all he can to ensure nobody at Man City gets carried away with their start to the season. After all, we saw them fail to win anything after an even better start to last season.
Things look do different this time around though. Man City have a much improved defensive unit but it’s their ruthlessness in front of goal that’s really caught the eye.
Man City have conceded just two goals from their opening six games, that’s three fewer than their opponents on Saturday. At the other end, City have scored nine goals more than Chelsea so they’ll rightly be feeling confident about their chances at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea, however, as the biggest test that Man City have faced this season. Liverpool did threaten the Citizens before Sadio Mané was sent off but Chelsea pose a different threat. They are solid at the back, lethal when they get chances and have a mentality makes them incredibly difficult to beat.
Both Conte and Guardiola will have rock solid plans for this game and it would be no surprise to see the two managers and their teams cancel each other out. A point would have to be considered a good result for both teams so we recommend backing the draw at 53/20 with Marathonbet.
Expect a Fascinating Battle if not a Classic
Conte and Guardiola go about their business in rather different ways and their differing tactical beliefs should hopefully provide neutrals with a fascinating battle at Stamford Bridge.
That is not to say that it’s going to be an end-to-end classic. Three points would be great for either side but at this early stage of the season the fear of losing may just trump the prize of winning.
That provides us with a couple of interesting betting opportunities. First of all, a bet on under 2.5 goals could well pay dividends at 5/4 with BetVictor.
Secondly, the riskier option of backing the 1-1 correct score could provide you with a bigger win from even a modest stake at 13/2 with William Hill.
Can Hazard Pip the Strikers to Score First?
Some people worried that Chelsea would struggle this season without the goals and all-around strong forward play of Diego Costa.
Costa has recently had his move to Atletico Madrid finalised but Chelsea look to have hit the jackpot in swapping one Spain international for another. Alvaro Morata may have been unfit when he arrived in England but he’s wasted no time in getting his Chelsea career off to a flying start.
Morata is the best striker at Chelsea but you could argue that he won’t even be the second best striker on the pitch when Man City visit West London.
Guardiola has both Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus in fine form and Man City have scored goals whether one or both of them make it into the starting XI.
Alongside Morata, the Man City strikers make up the top three options in the first goalscorer market. While any one of them could open the scoring, their dominance in the market provides value elsewhere with the fit-again Eden Hazard looking particularly appealing at 13/2 with Unibet.
