Coronation Stakes Betting Guide

The Coronation Stakes will be the highlight race from Royal Ascot on day four of the famous festival. This race is open to fillies aged three and is run over a distance of one mile.

It was established way back in 1840 and is always a thrilling watch on the Friday of Royal Ascot.

There is, as ever, a strong field lined up for the Coronation Stakes, but the current favourite with the bookies is the impressive Just The Judge, who is at 13/8.

This Irish filly has managed to win four of her five races, which have included two trips this year and if at her best, she is going to be tough to beat here.

Charles Hills is the trainer of the favourite and with such an impressive record, bets are sure to be popular on Just The Judge taking the Coronation Stakes, but it will be far from easy for her to come out on top.

Much of that is down to the fact that Sky Lantern is in action and with the horse likely to have the dream pairing of Richard Hughes and Richard Hannon representing her, she will be another popular bet in this encounter.

Also, in her last run, Hughes’ filly managed to beat Just The Judge by half a length and that knowhow could prove to be vital. She needs to run a near-perfect race and is being offered 7/2 to take this one, which could prove to be value.

The bookies feel as though this might be a two-way battle as next in the betting is Big Break, who is around the 7/1 mark.

She has won two of her four races, but was fourth behind the favourite in her last run, so a big improvement is needed this time out. You certainly can’t write Big Break off at this stage though.

Hot Snap could prove to be an interesting contender as she actually beat Sky Lantern back in April, but did finish in ninth position in her last race. The filly has shown she is good enough to compete with the best of them though and 9/1 could be decent value.

You then have Slyenica at 13/1, Viztoria at 14/1 and Purr Along at 15/1. All do have quality, but need to run the best race of their short careers to come out on top in the Coronation Stakes.

We think this is going to be the battle that everyone wants with Just The Judge and Sky Lantern going head-to-head, but we like the look of the latter coming out on top. She has quality and comes from one of the best yards around and offers you good odds on your bets.

The fillies take centre stage at Royal Ascot on Day Four and this race should be a cracker.
