Croatia v England Betting Tips – 11th July 2018
It has been a very long time since England fans felt this proud of their national football team. The Three Lions have made a series of missteps at international tournaments in recent years but all that hurt and disappointment has been forgiven and forgotten thanks to the exploits of Gareth Southgate’s team in Russia.
After winning their first knockout stage tie in 12 years and their first ever World Cup penalty shootout against Colombia, England were in complete control against Sweden during Saturday’s quarter-final.
Only Croatia stand between England and the 2018 World Cup semi-final but what are the best ways to approach this game from a betting perspective? We’ve marked your card with our Croatia v England betting tips.
England Ready to Take One More Huge Step Forwards
While England’s progression through to the semi-final was relatively serene, things were very different for Croatia.
For the second match in a row, Zlatko Dalić’s men had to rely on a penalty shootout to qualify. Dalić will clearly be delighted that his players were able to dig deep against Denmark and Russia but deep down he’ll surely be worried that his team are struggling to put away opposition they should be much stronger than.
Despite having an incredibly talented midfield, Croatia have only really caught fire once – during the 3-0 win over a frankly terrible Argentina team.
While Croatia fail to hit the heights they’re capable of, England have exceeded all expectations set before the tournament.
The Three Lions are comfortable in Southgate’s preferred 3-5-2 formation and have a settled starting XI with some excellent options capable of making a real impact from the bench.
Croatia’s fighting spirit and ability to dig out a result makes betting on England to win the game look a little less tempting than backing them to qualify at 4/6 with Boylesports.
England’s Defence Continuing to Improve
After the group stage the one real concern that England fans had was that the defence looked a little shaky. Those fears have now been dispelled as the back three of Harry Maguire, John Stones and Kyle Walker are getting better with each game.
Jordan Pickford was only really called into action in the second half on Saturday as Sweden began to get desperate and the impressive England goalkeeper may find himself having a relatively quiet evening against Croatia.

As mentioned above, Croatia aren’t firing on all cylinders so bet on England keeping a clean sheet at 6/4 with Betfred. It could be worth coupling that bet with one on under 2.5 goals which is available at a best price of 8/15 with Ladbrokes.
Can Sterling Capitalise on Another Fast Start from England?
England have made some fast starts in the World Cup so far. They blew Tunisia away in the opening stages of their very first game, began well against Colombia and were much the better side in the early exchanges against Sweden.
If England had only taken more of their chances in those early stages they could have taken commanding early leads. We think they’ll target another fast start against Croatia which could play into the hands of Raheem Sterling.
Sterling has done some great work for England without having any luck in front of goal. He seems to have problems when thinking too much about his chances but he’ll be going on instinct in the hurly burly early on so back Sterling to score first at 8/1 with Unibet.
A bet on England scoring in the opening 10 minutes is also tempting at 9/1 with Coral.
