Crystal Palace v Newcastle Betting Tips – 4th February 2018
Crystal Palace and Newcastle have been going in opposite directions for some months now.
While Palace have climbed from the very bottom of the Premier League table under Roy Hodgson, Newcastle have been drawn ever closer to the relegation zone despite the best efforts of Rafa Benitez.
Still, there is just one position and two points separating the two teams ahead of their meeting at Selhurst Park on Sunday afternoon.
It may be a little early to talk about relegation six pointers but there’s no doubting how important a win would be for either side. So, expect a proper ding dong battle in front of the TV cameras.
Home Advantage to Make the Difference
Newcastle fans have become used to disappointment under the ownership of Mike Ashley. Hopes were raised recently about an end to Ashley’s time at the club but they’ve been dashed with talks of a takeover put on the backburner until the team’s top flight status is secured.
The financial problems at the club were laid bare in the recent transfer window where Benitez was only able to make piecemeal additions to his squad.
The Spaniard is working with what he has without too many complaints but it’s clear that even a manager with his experience will struggle to keep Newcastle in the Premier League.
That said, Newcastle have done well on the road against fellow relegation rivals lately. They took the game to both Stoke and West Ham, returning to the North East with three points on both occasions.
Benitez could well take a similarly attacking approach to the Crystal Palace match but securing the same result will be much more difficult.
Roy Hodgson has turned Crystal Palace into a well drilled defensive unit who are capable of scoring goals on the counterattack incredibly quickly.
Their combination of physicality, pace and technical ability will surely prove too much for Newcastle so we recommend backing the home team to win at 113/100 with Marathonbet.
Newcastle to Keep the Game Entertaining
In their performance at the London Stadium, Newcastle showed that they have the attacking tools to cause problems themselves when at their best. Their best may not prove to be enough at Selhurst Park but there is every chance that Newcastle will at least give the travelling Toon Army something to cheer.
For that reason, we suggest you bet on both teams to score which is available at 10/11 with Paddy Power.
We also think that this game is going to burst into life at some point.
Hodgson and Benitez may have reputations as defensive managers but with the potential for such an important win and signs of real attacking intent over the last few months, a bet on over 3.5 goals has more chance of coming in than the odds of 3/1 that BetVictor are quoting would suggest.
Zaha to Show His Worth to the Palace Cause Once Again
At the start of the transfer window, Crystal Palace fans were more concerned with players leaving the club than who might come in.
Wilfried Zaha, clearly Palace’s best player, was heavily linked with a move to one of the top six clubs. Losing the Ivory Coast international would have been a hammer blow to the Eagle’s chances of avoiding the drop but he’s going nowhere for now.
Zaha had a frustrating evening against West Ham on Tuesday but, back on home turf, he’ll likely have more opportunities against Newcastle.
He’s come up with some very important goals already this season so take the 6/1 that Ladbrokes are quoting on Zaha scoring the game’s first goal.
