Davis Cup World Group Final Betting Tips
The Davis Cup Final will take place this week, but preperations have been less than ideal for Roger Federer and the Swiss. Feder, who last week competed in the ATP World Tour Finals in London, has suffered an injury in the build up to this weeks final.
Federer was forced to withdraw from the event in the hope he’d recover for this weeks final, as he aims to win the Davis Cup for the first time. In all his years of playing the game, it’s the only major trophy that Federer hasn’t put his name on.
Reports say Federer did not train on Tuesday or Wednesday morning which is a less than positive sign, and had he been replaced in the line up then he would not have his name enscribed on the official trophy.
He would however receive a replica to acknowledge his efforts as a team member until this point, but it just wouldn’t be the same.
If Federer does drop out at any point, then Wawrinka will be the man to lead the Swiss in the final. Although they have a talented pool of backups to call upon, Roger is obviously not replaceable. It may hand an advantage to France, who have much more depth in their team.
In the time that I’ve taken to write this, Roger Federer has actually announced that he intends to play. He’s declared his fitness, although arguably may not be 100%. All of the above may still apply, but for the time being it’s a big boost for the Swiss side.
All four of the French players are ranked in the top 30, including team captain Arnaud Clement. The remainder of the French team is likely to be made up by Richard Gasquet, Gael Monfils and of course Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
Federer, if he remains fit, will be joined by Wawrinka, Chiudinelli and Lammer. The Swiss team is full of ability but yet to win a title. The French, however, have an impressive 10 titles to their name.
After the news the bookmakers are favouring the Swiss side to come out on top at 1.85 with Bwin. The experienced French are 2.20 to add their 11th title with Totesport.
The action gets underway on Friday when Jo-Wilfriend Tsonga takes on Stanislas Wawrinka, and Gael Monfils will face Roger Federer. Providing Roger is fit, then both of the first games should go with the way of the odds.
