When you think of Basketball, you probably think of LeBron James and Miami Heat. After that, you probably think of the LA Lakers an Kobe Bryant. If you haven’t regularly watched NBA for a while, you’ll be interested to know the Lakers are officially the worst team in the NBA right now.
Kobe Bryant and 3/4 of their starting players are out with injuries. Henry, Nash, Blake, Farmar, etc. big men Kaman and Gasol have also forced themselves to play through illness and injury in recent times.
The Lakers are 1-8 in their last 9 games and they’re getting blown out everywhere they go. Just last night LA lost by 13 points to a Dallas team that put up no big effort and just cruised to a win.
Now LA travel to Houston to play their 2nd game in 2 days. They’ll be taking on a Rockets side with one of the most dangerous back courts in Basketball – Jeremy Lin and James Harden.
Add Dwight Howard and you have an all-star cast. The added storyline here is the big man Dwight taking on his former team. Howard’s career totally stalled in LA as the franchise failed to figure out says in which two stars like Kobe and Dwight could work together.
Since the move, Houston own a 22-13 record this NBA season, and they’ve been dominant at home.
Houston have endured a poor run of form themselves lately, having dropped their last 3 game. They do however have the benefit of being well rested after several days off. This will be just their third game of the new year, whilst the Lakers have been considerably busier.
Despite the fact Houston have struggled to cover double digit numbers often, this LA team are arguably a new level of bad right now, and tired legs after last nights game will only make their defence worse. The Lakers are 3-8 ATS when they are underdogs of 11 points or more.
Also, they are 0-5 ATS against teams with a winning home record about .600 (60%) and just 1-5 ATS when playing back to back after their starters combined for 160 minutes or more the previous night. All of that tells us they’ll be extremely tired.
If Houston want to put on a show for the fans then it could be a pretty open and shut case. They’re looking to bounce back and a home blowout would be a good way to do it.
