Huddersfield v Liverpool Betting Tips – 30th January 2018
When Liverpool beat Man City with an all action, top class performance, there were inevitable questions about just what it is that’s stopping Jurgen Klopp’s men from challenging for the title.
Well, Liverpool very kindly provided football fans with the answer in the two games that followed.
The Reds lost in the Premier League away to Swansea and were then sent crashing of the FA Cup by West Brom at Anfield. In both games they showed just how much work there still is for Klopp to do before Liverpool have any chance of winning major honours.
Next up for Liverpool is their trip to the John Smith’s Stadium to take on Huddersfield.
The Terriers’ recent form makes light of Liverpool’s recent troubles. Their only win since before Christmas was against Bolton in the FA Cup and David Wagner’s team, who lost 3-0 at Anfield, are flirting increasingly dangerously with the relegation zone.
Liverpool Should Return to Form
Talking about Swansea’s win last Monday night, Carlos Carvalhal likened Liverpool to a Formula 1 car but that, “If you put a Formula 1 car in London in traffic, the Formula 1 car will not run very fast.”
Klopp was obviously unhappy that his team could not find a way through the traffic of the Swansea defence in South Wales but the defeat against West Brom was much more troubling.
Liverpool’s defending was at its woeful worst against the Baggies on Saturday evening, despite the inclusion of £75 million new signing, Virgil van Dijk.
Since Liverpool paid £75m for Van Dijk, in his 2.5 games he's played against Everton, Swansea and West Brom...Liverpool have conceded 5 goals. pic.twitter.com/pBHmB5F4n4— Coral (@Coral) January 27, 2018
Generally speaking, Liverpool have defended well at Anfield this season but they’ve had many more problems on the road, the scars of which were evident against West Brom.
Huddersfield manager, David Wagner, is best friends with Klopp and the two worked together at Borussia Dortmund. He knows more about Klopp’s style of football than almost anybody and will feel confident he can get his Huddersfield team to capitalise on any more shaky Liverpool defending, especially at home.
Liverpool should ultimately have the quality to secure the points on Tuesday night. However, Huddersfield have the tools to make a game of it so bet on Liverpool to win and both teams to score which is 9/4 with Betfred.
Liverpool to Run Away with the Game in the Second Half
Everybody knew Huddersfield were going to find things tough in their first season in the Premier League. The Terriers have had some very good days but their recent form has seen them concede two against Stoke, three against Leicester and four against West Ham.
That is not good news ahead of a trip to Anfield.
Yes, Huddersfield should score against Liverpool but the real question is, how many will they let in at the other end?
Klopp and his players have had their pride dented in the last week or so, so they’ll be desperate for a big, morale boosting win. The Huddersfield players should be able to make the most of the crackling atmosphere generated by their fans early on but Liverpool should be able to run away with the game the longer it goes on.
That leads us towards a couple of tempting bets.
A bet on Liverpool to score over 2.5 goals looks generous at 6/4 with Paddy Power, while Liverpool are a good price to win the second half with a one goal handicap at 15/4 with Ladbrokes.
Finally, if you think Huddersfield will be able to put the pressure on Liverpool in the early stages, bet on the away side scoring before the half time whistle at a best price of 23/10 with Betway.
