Huddersfield v Man City Betting Tips
Pep Guardiola was in the very fortunate position of being able to rotate his team for their Champions League game on Tuesday. The Citizens had already qualified for the knockout stages of the competition and the 1-0 win over Feyenoord confirmed they won Group F.
Huddersfield Town manager, David Wagner, could afford himself a smile as he watched on. He can only dream about including players of the calibre of Yaya Toure, Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling in his first team, let alone a ‘weakened’ one.
Despite having nothing like the quality of the teams at the top of the top flight, Huddersfield have made a good fist of their first season in the Premier League. The undoubted highlight was their 2-1 win over Man Utd at Kirklees but what chance do they have of recording another huge win over one of the Manchester giants? Does it even matter given how far the club has come?
Man City to Make it 18 Wins on the Spin
It took until the 88th minute for Man City to make the breakthrough against Feyenoord on Tuesday night. But courtesy of Raheem Sterling’s win, the Citizens made it 17 wins in a row in all competitions (if you include their penalty shootout victory over Wolves in the Carabao Cup).
Guardiola’s side are hands down the best in the country this season and as such are the firmest of favourites to beat Huddersfield at a general 2/11.
That’s not exactly a price to be excited about for a Premier League team playing away from home as we’ve seen anything can happen in this division. However, we foresee nothing but a comfortable Man City win much like their last encounter in last season’s FA Cup.
Therefore, we recommend backing the away team with a two-goal handicap at 8/5 with Betfair.
In order for City to secure that comfortable win, they’ll have to be at their best in an attacking sense. Huddersfield have had their problems defensively in individual matches but only conceded more than one goal once at home.
It’s been a different story on their travels through and despite the passionate support from the home team, the amount of possession that Man City will have will make Huddersfield feel anything but comfortable at Kirklees.
Tottenham were able to secure a 4-0 win away to Huddersfield and Guardiola’s men could do something similar so back them to score three or more goals at 5/6 with Coral.
City to Break the Terriers’ Resistance Early On
Generally speaking, Huddersfield have been able to at least hang on in their toughest games. They kept a clean sheet for the first sheet against Liverpool, they drew 0-0 against Burnley away and they’ve conceded just six first half goals.
It was a different story against Spurs though who were 3-0 up before the half-hour mark on their trip to the John Smith’s Stadium. Pep Guardiola will be targeting a similarly fast start as he’s already seen Brighton, Everton and Wolves frustrate his team for much of their encounters against them.
Expect Man City to get the ball into dangerous positions right from the off and for the game’s first goal to be scored in the first 23 minutes at 10/13 with Winner.
Given that expected fast start and the fact that City have been in the lead at halftime in eight of their last nine matches, a bet on the Man City/Man City selection in Ladbrokes’ half time/full-time market worth a play at 4/6.
In terms of the player to score that first goal, Leroy Sané is the man to back at 9/2 with Boylesports. The German is deadly when he quickly springs in from wide areas and can having been rested against Feyenoord, he’ll be raring to exploit any space in behind the Huddersfield defence straight after kickoff.
