Hungarian Grand Prix F1 Betting Preview and Bet Tips

The battle at the top of the rankings for the F1 Drivers’ Championship could hardly be any closer. Nico Rosberg has seen his commanding lead eaten away by Lewis Hamilton over the past few weeks and the German is now top by just one point. Hamilton has won three of the last four races and goes into this week’s Hungarian Grand Prix as the bookies’ favourite. However, this could be a race which is much more complex than trying to work out which one of the two Mercedes drivers will win.

The Formula 1 calendar changes every year. The sport’s hierarchy is always on the lookout for new territories to take the sport to but the Hungaroring has been hosting F1 races since 1986. It is not only a long standing Grand Prix but it is very well regarded by drivers and fans alike. Those who turn up to watch the race are treated to brilliant views of the track from the grandstands and can make the most of the onsite waterpark. While the fans are enjoying themselves, the drivers have to keep their concentration levels as high as possible at this tricky track.

Not only is the Hungaroring relatively narrow compared to the more modern tracks but it is quite bumpy making for an uncomfortable drive. Drivers have to be quite patient when it comes to choosing where and when to overtake and the dusty nature of the track poses real problems in terms of race strategy as dirt builds up on the tires easily. It is also the slowest track on the circuit when it comes to average speed all of which should lead to a fascinating race.

Mercedes are going to win more races than they don’t from now until the end of the season but this could well be a weekend where they have to settle for a place in the points. Ferrari and Red Bull are both in with a chance of winning the race due to the nature of the Hungaroring. Cars which thrive in high downforce environments tend to do very well in Hungary and that is not great news for Mercedes.

If Hamilton and Rosberg are going to struggle to win the race, who should we be betting on? Well, it could be one of the two most recent winners of this race – Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo. Both men have what it takes to win this time around but Ricciardo looks to have the edge when it comes to their cars. So, back the Australian to win at 8/1 with bwin.
Max Verstappen will feel that he has a real chance of winning but at this tough track we think the added experience that his Red Bull teammate Ricciardo has tilts it in his favour. Still, Verstappen should turn in another impressive performance and at odds of 11/10 with Betfair he could finish in the top three.
