Inter Milan v Tottenham Betting Offers & Betting Tips – 18th September 2018
San Siro has played an important part in Tottenham’s recent history. Spurs visited the famous stadium in Milan twice in 2010 and 2011 with each match proving to be memorable.
In 2010, Harry Redknapp’s team nearly pulled off an incredible comeback in a match highlighted by a Gareth Bale hat-trick which came after Heurelho Gomes had been sent off but lost a by the odd goal in seven.
Things went better for Tottenham the following year when they beat AC Milan 1-0 in the first leg of their round of 16 tie.
The results were very different but both matches went a long way to proving that Spurs belong in European football’s elite competition. Fast forward to the present day and Tottenham are arguably stronger than ever as they return to San Siro on Tuesday night for another meeting with Inter as the Champions League gets underway.
Can Tottenham Arrest Their Mini Slump?
The season could not have started much better for Tottenham. Mauricio Pochettino’s men put the negativity that surrounded the club due to a lack of summer transfers and fitness concerns due to the World Cup behind them to win their opening three Premier League matches.
There is a danger of the negativity returning though following poor performances in consecutive defeats against Watford and Liverpool.
Spurs showed a real lack of intensity in both of those matches and will need to step it up considerably at San Siro to avoid another defeat.
Tottenham’s saving grace could be that Inter Milan have not exactly set Serie A alight so far. Luciano Spalletti added some real quality to his squad over the summer but they’re yet to really hit their stride which opens up the chance for Spurs to secure a positive result on Tuesday night.
Pochettino knows the importance of this match after the defeat to Liverpool and will demand a big performance from his players. We think he’ll get one but aren’t convinced they can win so recommend betting on the draw which is available at 12/5 with Black Type.
Tension Could Produce a Low Scoring Match
They won’t be admitting so publicly but Spalletti and Pochettino will expect their teams to compete with one another for second place in Group B. Barcelona are the clear favourites to top the group whilst PSV aren’t quite of the same calibre so the matches between Inter and Spurs should go a long way to deciding which of them makes it through to the knockout stages.
That will add even more tension to the first Champions League match of the season which we think will have a major impact on the flow of the game.
To capitalise on the effects of the tension, consider betting on under 2.5 goals which you can back at 4/5 with Boylesports.
If you fancy taking on a bit more of a risk to try and win bigger, the 1-1 correct score should tempt you at best odds of 11/2 with McBookie.
Kane to Do the Business on the Big Stage
It’s been a strange few months for Harry Kane.
The England captain was a little disappointed with his performances for England during the World Cup even though he ended up winning the Golden Boot. Something similar has happened in the Premier League where is performance levels have been poor by his own high standards even though he’s already scored twice.
Kane is used to being the talisman for his club and country and won’t be overly concerned with his performances and we recommend betting on him scoring Tottenham’s first goal at 2/1 with Paddy Power.
