John Higgins v Mark Davies Betting Preview

John Higgins will be looking for a comfortable win in the second round of the UK Championships when he takes on Mark Davis on Wednesday evening.

Higgins knows that he needs to improve on his first round performance against Michael Holt, where he managed a 6-3 victory, but suffered a number of scares.

The three-time UK Champion knows what a massive chance he has to win his fourth title in York this month with world number one Judd Trump falling at the first hurdle.

Also, Ronnie O’Sullivan is of course taking a break from the game at the moment, so the tournament really is wide open. If the Scotsman is able to perform at his near best in this one, then he will have too much for his opponent on the night.

However, such is the way that this tournament has gone so far – Higgins might be a bit nervous when stepping up for his first shot. He is the big favourite with the bookmakers to come out on top though as he is at 2/5 with Coral to move safely into the third round of the UK Championships.

As for Mark Davis, he will prove to be a tough opponent for Higgins as he is currently the world number 16 and has been seeded for this event for only the second time of his career.

In the first round, Davis was a comfortable 6-1 winner over Chinese opponent Cao Yupeng, so may even come into Wednesday night’s encounter as the more confident. He looks to be playing some superb snooker and he is sure to do all he can to beat his opponent.

A bet on the underdog reaching the third round will give you odds of 12/5 with Blue Square, which is good value from the bookies.

Betting on the correct score market is always popular in big snooker tournaments and at the moment, Higgins winning by six frames to three looks to be the most likely at 5/1 with Sportingbet.

As for Davis’ best chance of a victory, that comes by taking this one in a thrilling 6-5 win as it is at 9/1 with Ladbrokes.

Where we think you should be placing your bets though is on a convincing win for the four-time world champion. He might feel as though he has a bit point to prove on Wednesday evening, so a 6-0 win at 18/1 with William Hill could be the way to go.

The York crowd are sure to be in for a superb night of top-quality snooker.
