Liverpool v Everton Betting Tips – 10th December 2017
Sam Allardyce got his time in charge of Everton off to a winning start last week.
The 2-0 win over Huddersfield wasn’t pretty at times but it’s the points that matter right now as the Toffees try to navigate a route away from the relegation zone.
Although the appointment of Allardyce should ensure Everton aren’t worrying about relegation for too much longer, he was hardly the sort of manager the Toffees faithful were expecting.
They were looking for an exciting appointment to match the supposed ambition of the club now that they are backed by Farhad Moshiri’s money. Still, Allardyce has the chance to win them over when Everton they make the short trip to Stanley Park to take on Liverpool.
Liverpool to Prove Too Much in the Derby
In many ways, Jurgen Klopp and Sam Allardyce are polar opposites. Klopp has been dogged by suggestions that he is not a good enough defensive coach while Allardyce has long been labelled a dinosaur for his safety-first approach to the game.
Allardyce would style himself as a pragmatist rather than an overly defensive manager but you can be sure he’ll be concerned primarily with setting up Everton not to concede at Anfield.
In contrast, Klopp will be sending out his exciting team to overwhelm their neighbours with fast, direct, attacking football.
Liverpool have struggled to break teams down at times this season but at their best they are irresistible. Whether the home side take an early lead or are made to work for it against a typically organised Allardyce defence, we think Liverpool will get the job done and win at 4/9 with BetBright.
Tight Affair in the Offing
Liverpool’s recurring defensive problems have already cost them this season. The Reds are 14 points shy of Man City at the top of the table and a Champions League place is the best they can hope for this campaign.
However, Klopp’s men have been far more solid at home. They’ve conceded just two league goals in their seven league games and are unbeaten at Anfield.
There is always the danger that Allardyce will come up with something special on the training ground to exploit Liverpool’s weakness defending set-pieces but it’s more likely that Everton’s poor form away from home will continue.
The Toffees are without a win on their travels and have had big problems scoring enough goals so back Liverpool to keep a clean sheet at 11/10 with Betfair.
Although we don’t think Everton will do enough to keep Liverpool at bay, we do think they’ll be able to frustrate the hosts for significant periods.
There are a couple of ways to profit from Liverpool just about doing enough. We like the looks of a bet on under 2.5 goals at 43/25 with Marathonbet. We also think that backing the Liverpool 2-0 correct score could pay out handsomely at 27/4 with Sportingbet.
Fireworks Expected On the Pitch and In the Dugouts
Jurgen Klopp had to apologise this week for keeping Chris Hughton waiting for a handshake after Liverpool’s win at the Amex Stadium. Klopp was right to apologise but he has a knack for annoying other managers which could be fun on Sunday afternoon.
Allardyce is not backwards in coming forwards when something annoys him and there could well be friction between the two managers during the game.
There will also certainly be flash points on the pitch in a fixture that has had more red cards than any other in the Premier League.
You can capitalize on this fiery fixture by betting on Everton to be shown four or more cards at 11/8 with William Hill.
