Liverpool v Newcastle Betting Tips – 3rd March 2018
Liverpool versus Newcastle is one of those Premier League fixtures that drips with history.
There is no real rivalry between the two teams, no real bad blood either and yet it has produced some classics over the years.
We’ve seen Liverpool win 6-0 and 5-1 in St James’ Park, Newcastle win the League Cup 1-0 in 1995 and that wonderful 4-3 rollercoaster in 1996.
The two teams are no longer competing for the same prizes but there’s still plenty to play for on Saturday evening.
While Liverpool are pushing to secure a top four spot, Newcastle are giving their all to avoid the drop so expect a fully committed performance from both sides in front of the cameras at Anfield.
Newcastle to Play Their Part in Another Entertaining Encounter
It’s a tough time to be a Newcastle fan. The Magpies have gone from title contenders to a club that yo-yos between the Premier League and Championship. The playing staff is devoid of the sort of quality that Newcastle fans expect while the ownership of the club remains an ongoing soap opera.
Other than their excellent fans, the one thing Newcastle have going for them is Rafa Benitez.
The Spaniard’s management makes Newcastle more than the sum of their parts and were it not for him they’d be in deeper trouble.
It’s always emotional for Benitez when he returns to Anfield but he’ll put those feelings to one side and ensure that every Newcastle player knows their job inside out.
Newcastle will make life tougher for Liverpool than West Ham did last weekend but we still think Jurgen Klopp’s team will secure all three points.
Although the Anfield faithful should be sent home happy we expect Newcastle’s run of scoring in their last seven league games to continue. So, back Liverpool to win and both teams to score at 17/10 with Ladbrokes.
Liverpool’s Threat to Grow as the Game Gets Older
Rafa Benitez has long had a reputation for favouring the defensive side of the game. It’s not an approach that’s always won him fans but it has been producing results lately.
Manchester City are the only team to beat Newcastle in their last eight league games and their points return of 11 from those games represents their second best run of the season.
In order to maintain their forward momentum, Benitez must ensure that Newcastle remain in the game for as long as possible. The Magpies will defend in numbers in the early stages before looking to maximise any opportunities that come their way later on.
Liverpool may well be frustrated for the first 45 minutes but they won’t stop knocking on the door and there’s a chance the floodgates will open once the breakthrough comes.
From a betting perspective there are a couple of ways to try and profit from this.
First, make sure to take the odds of 9/10 that Winner are quoting on the first goal coming after 24 minutes.
Second, bet on Liverpool scoring over 1.5 second half goals at 11/10 with Paddy Power.
Oxlade-Chamberlain Can Grab His Chance to Shine
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has only really played well in fits and spurts since signing for Liverpool from Arsenal.
The versatile midfielder is desperate to force his way into Gareth Southgate’s plans for the World Cup and needs many more performances of the calibre he turned in against West Ham last time out.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain been as good as anyone in the second half, quietly impressive. Man City his standout performance so far but this has been very good.

As Newcastle’s players tire, Oxlade-Chamberlain’s influence in Saturday’s game can grow so he looks a good bet to score the game’s last goal at 9/1 with Betway.
