Liverpool v Swansea Betting Tips – 26th December 2017

Publish: 21.02.2018

The Swansea City board have finally lost their patience with Paul Clement. After initially deciding to give their manager a chance to drag the Swans away from the relegation zone, they dramatically changed their mind last Wednesday night.

The board, who have been heavily criticised by Swansea fans, also changed their mind about Clement’s successor. They had hoped to make an instant appointment but instead have given the job on a caretaker basis to Leon Britton.

After his first match in charge on the weekend, Britton’s next task is a daunting trip to Anfield. Liverpool are yet to lose a game at home this season but have dropped points five times due to draws so will be keen to turn in a ruthless display against the Swans.

Liverpool to Strengthen Top Four Hopes with a Win

The size of the task facing Swansea at Anfield is laid bare by the bookies’ odds. The best price you’ll find on the home side is the 2/11 that Sky Bet are quoting while the Swans can be backed at 18/1 with Coral.

Usually, those sort of prices would have us doing a double take but Swansea almost look a beaten side before taking to the pitch lately.

Liverpool, in stark contrast, are playing as well now as at any time since Jurgen Klopp took over at the club. Yes, Klopp’s been criticised for his squad rotation policy but if Liverpool can keep picking up points until the fixtures ease off a bit in the New Year, they’ll be in a good position to end the season strongly.

We’re certain that Liverpool will win in front of the TV cameras but 2/11 is too short a price to get involved in.

Instead, bet on Liverpool winning to nil which is 37/40 with BetVictor. The Reds are keeping clean sheets with increasing regularity and should be able to keep Swansea at bay by dominating possession and slowing the tempo down after taking the lead.

Swans’ Resistance to be Ended Early

Whoever is given the task of keeping Swansea in the Premier League will have an overwhelming to do list on day one.

Somewhere right at the top of that list will be working out a way to make the Swans more of an attacking threat. For much of their stay in the top flight, Swansea have been an example of other smaller clubs about how to play attractive football and be successful, just look at their win at Anfield last season.

It’s been very different this season though as the Swans have managed just five goals away from home. We don’t see that tally increasing against Liverpool who have conceded just three league goals at Anfield.

That said, nobody at Liverpool will be taking the Swansea threat lightly. The home side will do all they can to assert their dominance in the early stages and get heads to drop in the Swansea ranks.

You can capitalise on a fast start from Liverpool by betting on them to score in the opening 10 minutes at 19/5 with Ladbrokes.

Another option is taking the 4/6 that Coral are quoting on the Liverpool/Liverpool selection in their half time/full time market.

Kop to Welcome Lallana Back to Action

Since recovering from a thigh injury, Lallana has only been used sparing by Klopp but the Swansea game could be the perfect time to give the England midfielder a start.

Lallana’s fitness is improving every day and the effects of the hectic schedule means Klopp is looking for options in his squad.

It remains to be seen how Lallana fits into this exciting Liverpool team long term but for now all he can do is stake his claim to a first team spot by scoring against Swansea at 12/5 with Paddy Power.
