Liverpool v Tottenham Betting Tips – 4th February 2018
It’s been a topsy turvy week for both Liverpool and Tottenham.
Jurgen Klopp watched on in horror on the weekend as his Liverpool team defended appallingly during their FA Cup fourth round defeat against West Brom. He was much happier on Tuesday night though when Liverpool ran out comfortable 3-0 winners against Huddersfield.
Tottenham came close to suffering the same FA Cup fate as Liverpool but a late Harry Kane goal secured a draw against League Two Newport County. There was no hangover from that disappointing performance on Wednesday though when Spurs beat Man Utd 2-0 at Wembley Stadium.
The recent form of both teams leaves football fans unsure of exactly what to expect when Tottenham travel to Anfield on Sunday evening.
There is one thing you most certainly can expect from these two entertaining teams – goals. But what are the best ways of tackling this intriguing game from a betting perspective?
Anfield to Help Secure Another Big Liverpool Win
Mauricio Pochettino has won plaudits the world over for his job at Tottenham. He’s a hard working, thoughtful manager who has certain beliefs about how the game should be played and he showed just how good he is on Wednesday night.
Pochettino knew they Spurs in for a tough night against Man Utd if they did not get off to a fast start and so he utilised a move straight off the training ground to score the game’s opening goal direct from kickoff.
Tottenham led Tuesday’s match for all but 10 seconds to give them their second win against a top six team this season. The other was against Liverpool in October when Spurs put the Liverpool defence to the sword, running out 4-1 winners.
Although that win will make Klopp and the Liverpool fans wary about what Tottenham are capable of, there’s every chance the Reds can reverse the result at Anfield.
Liverpool are yet to lose a league game at home this season. They’ve beaten Man City and Arsenal at Anfield already and with an extra day to prepare, look good value to add Liverpool to that list at 11/10 with Unibet.
Tottenham to Tire in the Latter Stages
Tottenham’s win over Man Utd was one of their best performances of the season but it may end up costing them against Liverpool.
While Klopp’s men were able to see out their win over Huddersfield at a relatively sedate tempo, Tottenham kept on pushing against United. The Tottenham squad that travels to Anfield will have some heavy legs, a problem that will become more evident as the game continues.
Pochettino may seek to negate his squad’s fatigue by pushing for another fast start. Liverpool, too, will be gunning to get their noses in front early doors which makes a bet on both teams to score in the first half look a solid option at 3/1 with William Hill.
Liverpool’s control on the game should strengthen as the game goes on though. They’ve scored almost 60% of their goals in the second half of matches this season while Tottenham have conceded significantly more goals in the second half than the first.
That throws up some interesting betting opportunities.
The first is backing Liverpool to score over 1.5 second half goals at 5/2 with Paddy Power. The second is to take the 5/1 that Marathonbet are quoting on the Draw/Liverpool selection in their half time/full time market.
