Monaco v Juventus Betting Offers – 3rd May 2017
Juventus may have been the best side in Italy for the best part of six years but Serie A’s stock has fallen so far that Juve’s chances in the Champions League have routinely been overlooked.
The Old Lady were written off throughout the 2014/15 campaign for example but they made it all the way to the final before losing to Barcelona. However, Max Allegri’s side believe wholeheartedly in what they are doing and that belief is a big reason why they’ve made it to the semi-finals this season.
Juventus’ opponents, Monaco, can empathise with Juventus being written off.
Some people thought that Monaco would struggle to get out of a group that contained Tottenham, Bayer Leverkusen and CSKA Moscow. They finished top.
Monaco’s chances were rated at close to zero after losing the first leg of their tie against Manchester City 5-3. They came back in the second leg to qualify.
Leonardo Jardim’s men were underdogs once again when paired against Borussia Dortmund in the quarter-final. They won both legs of a tough tie.
You can be forgiven, therefore for taking the odds of 4/11 that some bookies are quoting on Juventus to qualify for the final with a pinch of salt. Yes, this Juventus side are much more experienced at this level and yes, they are the fair favourites but you write Monaco off at your peril.
Allegri’s team certainly won’t be writing Monaco off but they’ll take heart from the history books.
Juventus beat Monaco in the quarter-finals in the 2014/15 campaign and in the 1997/98 semi-finals. Moreover the Italian Giants have never lost a two-legged tie against French opposition.
We think that Juventus will just about have enough to get through after two legs. The picture may be a little less clear after one leg, however.
Monaco have stuck largely to the same game plan in Europe this season. Their defence is far from the watertight (and a million miles away from Juve’s) but they’ve have made up for that with their wonderful attacking play.
Monaco’s combination of youthful exuberance and players with experience right at the top of the game makes them an incredibly potent force. For that reason, we really like the price of 19/4 that Bwin are quoting on Monaco to win the match and both teams to score.
Whereas Monaco have relied on their attacking players to dig them out of a couple of holes this season, it’s been Juventus’ defence that has really stood out. Monaco will have to be at their attacking best to break their opponents down but Juventus will likely need an away goal to give themselves the best chance of qualifying in the return leg.
Monaco have been the Champions League’s entertainers so look to capitalise on another cracking game by betting on over 3.5 goals at 9/4 with Bet365.
Radamel Falcao’s resurgence has been a major talking point this season but it’s Monaco’s young players who have really caught the eye. Bernardo Silva is a genius on the ball and Kylian Mbappe already have five Champions League goals to his name.
Mbappe’s future looks to be away from Monaco but while he’s still at the club he can grab another huge goal at 13/2 with BetVictor.
