Newport County v Tottenham Betting Tips – 27th January 2018
Like every League Two club, Newport County know the value of the FA Cup. It’s a competition that can make winners of clubs like Newport even though they have no chance of actually winning it.
By making it to the third round, Newport had a chance of a big payday thanks to a sell out crowd at Rodney Parade or an away trip to a big name club.
That payday came with their home match against Leeds.
At 1-0 down at half time, the Newport hierarchy were happy enough with their lot but the players clearly weren’t. The Exiles turned it around and won a place in the fourth round thanks to an 89th minute winner from Shawn McCoulsky.
Rodney Parade went made when that goal went in and things only got better when Newport were drawn against Tottenham in the fourth round. That gives the team a chance to test themselves against one of the best teams in the country while securing the finances of the club for at least a couple of years.
Once the 3pm kick-offs are out of the way, we're taking a trip to Rodney Parade where the mighty Leeds fell in the third round... ?— Football on BT Sport (@btsportfootball) January 11, 2018

Tottenham to Bring Newport’s Run to an End
Newport weren’t supposed to beat Leeds. They’d lost 5-1 when the two teams met earlier in the season in the Carabao Cup but something special came over the Newport players in the low Sunday sun.
The Exiles will give it everything once again when Tottenham visit Rodney Parade. Unfortunately, it’s unlikely to be enough.
It’s been something of a disappointing season for Spurs. Where they were challenging for the title in recent campaigns, they have a real fight on their hands just to qualify for the Champions League this time.
They were also a little sluggish during their 1-1 draw with Southampton on the weekend. That, however, is about as far as it goes for Newport in terms of positivity.
Tottenham remain a top class side, capable of tearing through defences in the Premier League and Champions League. Their B-game will surely be enough to comfortably beat a League Two team.
In just the last two months, Spurs have put five past Stoke, three past Burnley, five past Southampton and four past Everton. Their goalscoring prowess makes the Tottenham -2 goal handicap selection look a good bet at 5/4 with Unibet.
Commanding Performance Incoming from Pochettino’s Men
Mauricio Pochettino has been involved in English football for long enough to understand the unique challenges posed by playing a lower league side in cup competition.
While Rodney Parade will be a new experience for the Argentine, he’ll have a solid game plan which will revolve around Spurs dictating the tempo and regularly creating chances.
To capitalise on a commanding performance from the Premier League side, a bet on Tottenham winning to nil could pay out nicely at 9/10 with BetVictor.
Spurs will also look to put their stamp on the game as early as possible.
Silencing the crowd is always an aim for the favourites in matches like these and we think Spurs will be able to do just that by scoring over 1.5 first half goals at 17/10 with Betfair.
Kane to Spearhead Spurs’ Push for Silverware
You’ll hear a lot of talk at football club’s about pushing to ‘the next level’. For most it’s impossible to define what that means but for Tottenham it’s easy, they have to win something.
Despite improving significantly under Pochettino, Tottenham have yet to win any silverware under his management. The FA Cup represents a great chance for them to keep progressing, Pochettino will call on his best players.
That means playing Harry Kane up front against Newport.
Kane is the sort of striker who just loves playing football. He’s motivated to score goals against any opposition and should be too good for Newport so back the England striker to score two or more goals at 17/10 with Ladbrokes.
