Rangers v Devils Ice Hockey Betting Guide
The New York Rangers and the New Jersey Devils will meet in this, the latest game of the 2014 Coors Light stadium series, on Sunday evening. After dropping back to back games at the Garden, the Rangers will be looking at getting back on track as they prepare to play two games at Yankees stadium.
Despite occasion being very much one to enjoy with a huge atmosphere being expected inside Yankees stadium, the real matter at hand is keeping themselves in the playoff berth picture after their recent losses.
The Rangers sit second in their division with 57 points right now, but they’re only 4 points ahead of opponents New Jersey in a tightly contested division. A win would give them such much needed breathing space after a slightly sticky period.
The Devils are currently playing their game in hand in the schedule over the Rangers as I write this, and although upcoming opponents the Islanders hold an average record, they are on an extended run of form right now.
The fate of the Rangers playoff hopes could be largely decided by their performance in the stadium series in one of the tighter finishes to a season.
Despite the small recent dip, it should be said the Rangers have slowly but surely improved on the season. A lack of chemistry was apparent at certain stages of the current campaign, but the offensive efficiency is there for everyone to see now.
Despite the fact the Rangers clearly have a more elite offence in this one; you can’t overlook the solid defensive play of the Devils. The betting lines aren’t available yet as I write this, but naturally you can expect the line to be between the regular number of 5 and 6.
Given the goaltending exploits of the Devils I think they’ll be able to deal with a lot of what the Rangers throw at them, so take a small bet on the Under the total when the lines do come out.
The Devils aren’t the only team capable of playing some tough D though, as on top of their offence the Rangers are ranked top 10 in power play and penalty-killing. The Devils are also ranked inside the top 10, and that could be both a big reason this game will be close, tough, and potentially decided on a mistake or two.
I think when the betting lines come out you should be backing the Rangers to pick up a much needed win in this one, but keep in mind a small bet on the Under could be of some value.
Stay away from the -1.5 when betting this one as the Devils won’t let this one slip away easy even if they do fall behind at some stage, but again, I am siding with the New York Rangers for your Sunday NHL bet. Good luck!
