Sutton Utd v Arsenal Betting tips
There’s been a lot written and discussed about the supposed fading importance of the FA Cup this season.
With managers in the Premier League and Championship taking the decision to prioritise their league campaigns over the chance for cup glory and numerous images of stadiums with thousands of empty seats, some pundits believe that clubs are not treating the FA Cup with the respect that it deserves.
However, in a small section of South London, the FA Cup has more magic than ever.
National League side, Sutton United, have made it through to the fifth round of the FA Cup for the first time in their history. Along the way they’ve picked up wins over local rivals AFC Wimbledon and Leeds, the side who famously beat them 6-0 in the FA Cup back in 1970.
Sutton’s reward for qualifying for the fifth round is a game against Arsenal, the team who have won the FA Cup more times than any other.
Although the Sutton board would have preferred the game to be at the Emirates for financial reasons, the Sutton fans will love the chance to host Arsenal at Gander Green Lane. It’s also a massive night for the club’s manager Paul Doswell with Premier League opposition playing on the artificial pitch for which he provided a loan to the club.
A heavily rotated Leeds side couldn’t quite get going on the Gander Green Lane pitch but Arsenal will provide a completely different proposition, no matter which starting XI Arsene Wenger decides to pick.
Once again, it’s the FA Cup which provides Arsenal with the best chance of winning silverware this season. The Gunners are all but out of the running for the Premier League title and their chances of getting past Bayern Munich in the Champions League are slim. With Wenger seeing a rotated team knocked out of the EFL Cup at home to Southampton, he must take Monday’s game seriously.
As you’d expect given the difference in class between these two teams, Arsenal are heavy odds-on favourites to get the win. The biggest price you’ll get on the Gunners is the 2/11 that Sky Bet are offering and while that’ll almost certainly provide a slight return on your money, there are a couple of ways of getting more from an Arsenal victory.
First up is the half time/full time market.
Sutton are sure to try and make the opening period of the game as difficult as they can for Arsenal. The Gunners will have to get used to the unusual surface and the cramped conditions of Gander Green Lane.
But, if the Gunners grab an away goal they can dampen the home team’s spirit and go on to kill the game. The Arsenal/Arsenal selection is 4/6 with Ladbrokes and it looks well worth taking.
Secondly, place a bet on Arsenal to win and for there to be over 3.5 goals scored at 23/20 with Coral. Arsenal easily have enough attacking talent to breach the Sutton defence multiple times. Sutton, too, could pop up with a goal but it is hard to see them scoring enough to keep their dream FA Cup run alive.
- Arsenal to win and over 3.5 goals at 23/20 with Ladbrokes
- Arsenal/Arsenal in half time/full time at 23/20 with Coral
