The Darley Irish Oaks comes from the Curragh on Saturday afternoon and this fillies’ encounter is all set to be a cracker. This race is open to three-year-old fillies and is run over a distance of one mile and four furlongs.
There are eight runners at this stage and it is tough not to get excited about this one when you look at the talent involved in the field.
Riposte is being tipped as the 5/2 favourite with Betfred right now and after her win in the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot, she comes here in cracking form.
The filly runs for Lady Cecil and will have Tom Quellay doing the steering once more. Quellay seems to have a good relationship with the horse as he has won his last two races with Riposte.
In three races, we have seen the favourite in terms of the betting for this one finish in first place on two occasions and second once, so she is often involved and will be tough to beat.
You then have Talent at 11/4 with Coral. This will be the first time we have seen this horse since her surprise win in the Epsom Oaks at the end of May.
Ralph Beckett’s charge finished the race extremely strongly last time out and we might see her attack from the back of the pack once more. She could be good value and is sure to be well-rested after six weeks or so out of action.
It is now three wins in a row for Talent and that is going to make her a popular bet here.
There might be plenty of bets placed on Alive Alive Oh as well as she is at 6/1 with Boylesports.
We haven’t seen this filly since the start of May as she missed Royal Ascot, but she is sure to be in contention after two wins from three races.
Alive Alive Oh has plenty of talent, but this will be the first time she runs over this distance.
It isn’t much of a surprise to see that leading Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien has a number of contenders here.
O’Brien has given an entry to Venus de Milo, who is at 7/1 with Paddy Power, Just Pretending at 14/1 with William Hill and then Magical Dream, who is an outsider with the bookies at 33/1.
As they come from this trainer’s yard, you can’t rule any of these three horses out and it might be worth noting Just Pretending will be partnered by Joseph O’Brien.
Others in the betting include Chicquita (7/1), and Scintilliula, who is at 33/1 with BetVictor.
This should be a cracking race and we think Talent will be the winner. However, we also like the look of Magical Dream in the each-way market.
