The Masters is one of the best tournaments on the snooker calendar because it pits the very best in the sport against each other over the course of a week.
Ronnie O’Sullivan is ranked as the favourite to win this tournament and it is one he’s had much success in throughout the past. O’Sullivan is the sort of player who can win any tournament on his day but he often lacks the mental focus and discipline which is needed for any lengthy snooker tournament. This is a big tournament for the Rocket as he’ll want to prove he’s better than his ranking of 15 suggests. He is 6s with Sportingbet.
Mark Selby has been the most consistent player in the world over the last 18 months and he goes into the tournament as one of the favourites to take the title. Selby comes from a pool related background but has shown that he has a very good snooker game and he’ll want to win this as preparation for the World Championship in April. Selby is the second favourite at 13/2 with a couple of bookies.
Judd Trump is one of the few snooker players that everyone is talking about at the moment because of his exciting game. Trump is arguably the most aggressive player on the circuit and his win at the recent UK Championship will fill him full of confidence as he seeks further titles in 2012. Trump is an outsider in the betting market at 7s in a few places.
John Higgins may not be the best player to watch play snooker but he has the experience needed to win this and he is the world champion. Higgins has not had a great season but he knows the importance of finding some form on this stage. Higgins has done well in the Masters throughout the history of the event and this will be a big chance for him. As always he will be well supported and he is also 7/1 to win with Bwin.
Neil Robertson has not continued the momentum he built up when he won the 2010 World Championship title. There is no doubt that the Australian is one of the best players in the game but he has been very inconsistent this season and will want to set things straight. He has a very good all round game which means he can defend well and attack all opponents in this event. Robertson is a lengthy 10/1 with Boylesports to win this tournament.
Mark Williams is ranked as a 12/1 outsider with Ladbrokes to win this event even though on his day he is still one of the best all round players in the sport. Williams has the experience and is still good enough to cope with the pace and aggression of the modern day. He’ll have one eye on Sheffield in April but will be right up for the challenge of winning this.
